Night & VFR OTT Rating
Prerequisites
Minimum Age: 17 years old
Aviation Medical: Category 3 or higher
Aviation Licence: Private Pilot Licence
The Night Rating allows the pilot to fly at night in visual weather conditions. The VFR Over-The-Top Rating allows the pilot to fly over the top of a layer of cloud (without visual reference to the ground) as long as prescribed weather criteria are met.
All applicants applying for any program/licence must submit a Criminal Code of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Screening check. Contact your local RCMP office for more information.
Applicants for all programs must be able to obtain a passport.
Both Ratings are included with the Commercial Pilot Licence. However, the Private Pilot may decide to add these ratings to expand licence privileges.
Course Contents and Requirements
The Night Rating may be completed in approximately one week and is usually conducted on either the Cessna 152 or Cessna 172.
Dual Flight Time: 10 hrs
Solo Flight Time: 5 hrs
Ground School: 2 hrs
Flight Test: Not Applicable
Written Examinations: Not Applicable

Course Schedule
Each rating usually takes approximately one week to complete depending upon weather and consistency in scheduling and performance.
Upon Completion
Graduates of the Night rating may now fly at night. Graduates of the VFR OTT Rating may fly over a layer of cloud with no reference to the surface of the earth under prescribed weather conditions.
