Flight Simulator

The purchase of the Modular Flight Deck (MFD) Flight Simulator by Precision Flight Controls in the Spring of 2002 has allowed for great enhancements to GFT programs. This full-cockpit flight simulator may be configured for single-engine, multi-engine, and even turbine aircraft allowing it to be used during all phases of training, from the Private Pilot Licence all the way up to 2-Crew Turbine and Airline Operations training.

Why use a Flight Simulator?

The use of a Flight Training Device, or Flight Simulator as it is commonly known, adds an unparallelled quality to a training program. Weather and Aircraft Conditions can be controlled by the flight instructor, allowing the trainee to be placed in new and sometimes difficult situations while safely on the ground. Critical instrument flying skills can be mastered in the simulator before conducting training in the aircraft, reducing the overall cost of the training while increasing the quality. Aircraft malfunctions that would be too dangerous to simulate would only be discussed, but with a simulator these procedures can now be safely practiced.

Private Pilot Licence

There are 5 hours instrument flight time required for the Private Pilot Licence, of which up to 3 hours may be conducted in an approved Flight Training Device (FTD). GFT utilizes the Cessna 172 configuration for this level of training.

Commercial Pilot Licence

There are 20 hours instrument flight time required for the Commercial Pilot Licence, of which up to 10 hours may be conducted in an approved Flight Training Device (FTD). GFT utilizes the Cessna 172 and Mooney configuration to introduce a complex aircraft with variable pitch propellers and retractable landing gear.

Instrument Rating

There are 40 hours instrument flight time required for the Instrument Rating, of which up to 20 hours may be conducted in an approved Flight Training Device (FTD). GFT utilizes the Cessna 172, Mooney and PA 34 configurations for this training program. This allows instrument flying procedures to be learned first in a simple aircraft, then to gradually make the aircraft more complex at an easy rate for the student to learn.

2-Crew & Turbine Operations Training

Students of GFT have the opportunity for exposure to an environment that will become familiar when they begin working as professional pilots. GFT uses the King Air 100 configuration for this training which introduces turbine aircraft operations along with Crew Resource Management concepts in a 2-crew environment.

Integrated Commercial Pilot Licence (ICPL)

The ICPL requires 60 hours of instrument flight time, of which 30 hours may be conducted in an approved Flight Training Device. GFT encompasses all of the above levels of training into one contunuous program for the ICPL.
